Returning to her roots
For Fides, this journey is a homecoming. As an Ibaloi woman, the misty highlands of Benguet are more than just a landscape; they are her inheritance. While living abroad, she felt a pull to reconnect with her heritage, a longing to understand where she came from. It was in this search that she made a beautiful and profound discovery: her own great-grandmother was a coffee farmer.
This connection was affirmed in a moment of pure wonder. During a traditional cañao ceremony, as she was welcomed back by her tribe, a large Mariposa butterfly gently landed on her arm and remained there, as if in quiet conversation.
The elders saw it as a clear sign—a blessing from her ancestors. They interpreted it as the spirits of the land and her forebears, giving their approval of her return and her path. It was a confirmation that she was exactly where she was meant to be.
Aponi Bayosa is a way of honoring that heritage. The butterfly represents resilience, hope, and the belief that something delicate can also be powerful. It is a reminder that behind every bean is a story of endurance, family, and love for the land.
